Bringing Nature Indoors

By Karen Romani

What do you think about when you hear the word nature? Green, soothing, fresh, natural?

I am a botanical artist whose greatest joy is rendering what Mother Nature so artfully created. The color combinations are second to none. The curves and intricacies of flowers intrigue me. Even faded flowers take on a new softer hue. They are so beautiful, even at the end.

I love that feeling of earth and nature, and I’m able to experience it all over my home. As a botanical artist my work is everywhere. I use my paintings to brighten a dark corner, or in bedroom to give it a soothing vibe. My kitchen is brightened with appetite-stimulating reds. Nature is very symmetrical, something that brings order to my life. Even an asymmetrical arrangement of botanicals brings the garden inside and can be very pleasing to the eye.

Color is so subjective, it can be exciting, soothing, playful, and much more. My go-to color is shades of red. It’s bright, happy, and invigorating, whether it’s a rose or a radish. Size doesn’t matter, a small flower can brighten your décor just as well as a huge blossom. Whatever you choose to enhance your décor, be sure it’s something you love.
